Week 1 was very exciting as it was the start of the '04 season. Rami gave a wonderful orientation
which included history, geology, nature and of course, archeology. After the netting was put up over
the breakfast & work areas, everyone got down to work moving dirt & rocks out, plus sifting. On
Thursday pottery washing was started so that pottery reading & education could start during the
afternoon at kibbutz Ginosar. Sifting continues to be very important as 2 nice little round pieces of
iron were found while sifting dirt from the debris of the collapsed Roman wall of the south east side
of the city gate. The find of the week was by Courtney Mosher of Rocky Mountain College. Rami
stated that it's an iron age bead, very simple & beautiful (see middle pic below). We hope that
Courtney will find the rest of the necklace when she continues to excavate next week.
On Friday a volunteer from each of the 6 loci explained their progress & what they had found.
Elizabeth's group treated us to an excellent rendition of "run rabbit run"
