Since April of 2008, the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska at Omaha has been conducting a serices of seminars focues on Afghan language, culture, history, geography, natural resources, and current political and cultural issues for the U.S. Army in Omaha.

The prime objective of the seminars is to enable the participants to develop basic proficiency in language skills, cultural knowledge and to become aware of the perception and conception of the Afghan social, cultural, political, and physical phenomena. The main emphasis of the language component of the seminars is on practicing in a variety of daily conversational situations. Discussions on the geography and history components of the seminar include a geological survey of the country, with all of its important mineral resources, its various ethnic groups and the historical events in Afghanistan.

The Center has conducted several three-week sessions for thirty-eight U.S. Army participants. Recently, a Canadian representative also participated. The participants are reported to have enjoyed and learned a great deal from the seminar.
