Conditional Admission

Many ILUNO students, while lacking English proficiency, are otherwise qualified for undergraduate or graduate coursework. These students may receive conditional admission into academic programs at UNO. They know in advance that they can begin studies in a degree program immediately after completing ILUNO. Make sure to tell your admissions advisor about your interest in conditional admission. Read more at How to Apply.

Bridge Program

Many undergraduate students can take university coursework while also taking intensive English classes. Students meet with ILUNO advisors and UNO faculty to select university courses suitable for their future educational plans. The Bridge Program used to be known as "concurrent enrollment."

The Bridge Program is available for most undergraduate majors. To qualify, students must have a TOEFL score of 460 (48 for the computer-based test). If the Bridge Program sounds right for you, talk to your ILUNO instructor or international student advisor.

Advantage Track

The Advantage Track is offered to students who want to take undergraduate courses at UNO without taking the TOEFL. In place of the TOEFL, students complete a series of ILUNO courses and proficiency exams in college-level reading, writing, and speaking to prepare them for undergraduate work.

Who can take the advantage track?

The program is open to students planning to attend most undergraduate programs at UNO. However, it is not open to students who plan to major in English, Engineering, or Education.

The program is for undergraduate students only, not graduate students.

How long does it take?

Most students take the Advantage Track for two to four ILUNO sessions before they are ready to begin undergraduate studies. A session lasts eight weeks, so plan on 16 to 32 weeks, depending on your current English level:

  • 2 sessions, 16 weeks: If you have already taken some Level 1600 ILUNO classes.
  • 3 sessions, 24 weeks: If you have never taken any Level 1600 ILUNO classes.
  • 4 sessions, 32 weeks: If you are beginning Level 1500 ILUNO classes.

What are the requirements?

The Advantage Track has the potential to accelerate your academic career, but it requires hard work. Students must:

  • Take all required ILUNO classes.
  • Show good attendance.
  • Earn good grades.
  • Pass three final proficiency exams in reading, writing, and speaking.

If the Advantage Track sounds right for you, talk to your ILUNO instructor or international student advisor.
