THE BENEFITS

Listen to UNO Political Science and Sociology major Katherine Mac-Holmes describe how studying abroad can further your personal and professional development. Listen to more UNO students and professors talk about studying abroad in the Virtual Campus Tour.

1. UNO has options that will fit your academic needs.

You can study abroad for a week or two, a semester, or a full academic year. You can join a guided tour with other UNO students or go on your own. You can purchase an all-inclusive, no-hassle study abroad package, or you can create the itinerary yourself. There's a study abroad program that's perfect for almost any major. Explore your options in Getting Started.

2. It's more affordable than you think.

There are many ways to offset the expense of traveling, living, and paying tuition overseas. UNO's partnerships with universities around the world allow students to pay UNO rates for tuition and fees. Your existing financial aid, including UNO scholarships, will apply. Scholarships specifically for studying abroad are also available. Learn more about Costs, Scholarships & Financial Aid.

3. Studying abroad makes you stand out.

In an era of globalization, employers of all kinds - businesses, nonprofits, government agencies - are looking for workers who can communicate in more than one language and navigate diverse cultures. Students who study internationally develop these skills. They gain real-world experiences that make their resumes stand out. Learn about how to use your study abroad experiences after Returning Home.

4. It's fun!

You'll have plenty of time outside of class to explore the sites, sample the local fare, and meet new friends. See what other UNO students have seen in the Travel Journal.

5. It will change your life.

Students return home with a wealth of photos, stories, new friends, and an expanded worldview. Living in another country and becoming immersed in a different culture causes students to look anew at their own culture. As they continue in their personal and professional development, they have a better appreciation for the diverse perspectives of their friends and colleagues. This new level of intercultural awareness and understanding leads to a fuller, more rewarding life.
